Sergio: Espanyol deserved more

Sergio Gonzalez was left to ponder over Espanyol’s inability to kill off Levante following their 2-2 draw at Ciutat de Valencia in La Liga on Friday.

Los Periquitos blew two leads against the Valencians as Simao Junior and Victor Casadesus both cancelled out strikes from Lucas Vazquez and Felipe Caicedo, but the Coach was nonetheless pleased with his side’s efforts.

“Sometimes you can have a great game but have little to show for it,” he said after the game.

“We had a great game and invested great effort into a match that we demonstrated hunger and ambition in.

“[We needed to kill the game off because] either team can gain the upper hand [when there’s just one goal between them].

“Even after [Levante pulled it back to 2-2] we had to be aware of the time.

“We had two or three clear chances to kill the game off in the second half. [Had we gone 3-1 up], the match would have stayed ours.”
