Former Real Madrid and Milan boss Fabio Capello says Lionel Messi is the world’s best footballer, although Cristiano Ronaldo comes a close second.
Capello, now in charge of the Russia national side, was one of the guests at the Laureus Awards in Shanghai and compared arguably the best players on the planet.
“Messi is the player who has the most fantasy, who is in another dimension, and is more creative than anyone else,” said the Italian.
“When he has the ball at his feet he goes directly to goal because he does not have the same shot from outside the box as Cristiano. However, he makes passes that nobody else in the world can.”
Capello also commented on this year’s Champions League and feels it is going to be a straight battle between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
“In my opinion Madrid are the favourites to win the Champions League but Bayern also have a good team, although last year they showed they have problems in defence when they lose the ball.
“This season Madrid have corrected things and they will be harder to beat. They are a more complete package now,” he added.
