Alves rejects Barca contract offer

Dani Alves has rejected Barcelona’s offer of a renewal and now looks set to leave the club this summer, according to the right-back’s agent.

The 31-year-old’s current deal has been running down for some time without any urgency on Barca’s part to enter talks, but Dinorah Santa Ana – the Brazilian’s representative and ex-wife – is adamant her client will be departing Camp Nou after “expecting more” from the club.

“We haven’t reached an agreement with Barcelona to extend [Alves’] contract, which ends June 30,” she told reporters.

“The player wanted another three years and the same salary to stay [at Barca], but it seems the club aren’t willing to match his demands.

“We’ve been told that this is their final offer, but we’re not prepared to accept it.

“We have an offer of a three-year deal from another club, but we wanted to wait until the end of the season so we could hear what Barca were offering.

“They made us a proposal for one year, with the option of a further two, depending on how many games he played, but that’s not possible.

“Dani’s sad because if this is their final offer, he won’t accept it and his career at Barca will be over. The player expected more from the club.”
