Carvajal up for Danilo challenge

Dani Carvajal says he is ready to accept the challenge of competing with new signing Danilo for the Real Madrid right-back spot next season.

Porto defender Danilo will link up with Los Blancos this summer following his €31.5m switch from the Portuguese giants, while Carvajal has no intention of throwing in the towel in the fight to be first choice.

“Danilo’s signing is good. We are the best club in the world and competition is always good,” the 23-year-old told reporters following Madrid’s 2-0 win at Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday.

“It’s normal that we are going to compete with the best clubs. Danilo is not here at the moment but next year I’ll be alongside him and I’ll be trying to play as much as possible.

“I read an article the other day that I wanted to leave. That’s not the case. This is my home and I’ll give everything for this shirt.

“I normally don’t require any motivation, even more so knowing that next year there is the European Championships.

“I know I’ll have a lot of competition both with my club and the national team, but what better time to prove I should be there,” he maintained.
