Luis Enrique claimed “the individual quality of the players was crucial” after Barcelona’s 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo in La Liga on Sunday.
Jeremy Mathieu’s second-half winner at Balaidos was enough to secure all three points for La Blaugrana, despite their struggles before the interval, but the Coach felt the cream eventually rose to the top.
“The match was open at all times,” he said after the match.
“We didn’t suffer much but we didn’t create many chances either. In these types of games, the individual quality of the players is crucial.
“These are three very important points because of the difficulty [we had in getting them] and because the end of the season will be tough.
“The Celta players were flying at first. Although we like being in control of the match and creating more chances than our opponents, that can’t always be the case.
“In the second half we had more control because they started tiring.
"Winning’s never a bad thing, even if it’s achieved with a goal from a defender. These are three wonderful points
“[Xavi Hernandez] is the player who has played the most games for Barcelona. He has a contract in place and looked like leaving last summer but ended up staying, and it was a great news.
“I think Xavi is focused on trying to get as many titles [with Barca] as possible. Whatever decision he may make will be accepted by everyone at the club.”
