Simeone ready for ’10 finals’

Diego Simeone says Atletico Madrid are chomping at the bit to kick off their run of ‘10 finals’ in La Liga, starting with Saturday’s trip to Cordoba.

The Spanish champions enter the season’s final chapter a point behind Valencia in third place, and the Coach has demanded his players to be at their very best when they travel to the division’s basement boys this weekend.

“I’ve always had the idea that we must play for the Atleti shirt. We have 10 finals remaining,” he said at a Press conference.

“You have to be more prepared than ever because [this stage of the season] is very difficult.

“We need to be at our best against Cordoba and compete with the intensity we’ve shown in recent games.

“Valencia and Sevilla have improved tremendously, Villarreal are still looking up the table. This is good for competition in the League and hopefully it stays that way.

“The teams who have been fighting for third place are still improving. Hopefully our economic developments will make it even more fun.

“We competed very well in our last game against Real Sociedad. We had 10 men in that game and it spoke volumes about the competitive tension the Coach had instilled in them.

“[On the renewals of Oscar Ortega and German Burgos], they’re formalising some details with the club.”
