Official: Danilo to join Madrid

Real Madrid have agreed to sign Porto right-back Danilo this summer for a reported €31.5m.

The 23-year-old had long been linked with both Los Blancos and Barcelona, but he has ultimately opted to pen a six-year deal with the former.

“Real Madrid CF and FC Porto have reached agreement for the transfer of the player Danilo, who will join the club next season and be tied to the club until June 30, 2021,” read a statement on Madrid’s official website.

The capital giants’ move for Danilo raises fresh questions about Alvaro Arbeloa’s long-term future at the club, while also generating competition for Dani Carvajal.

Danilo had spells at Brazilian sides America and Santos before joining Porto for €13m in the summer of 2012.

An U20 World Cup winner and Olympic silver medallist, he has also established himself as Brazil’s first-choice right-back since their humiliating semi-final exit from last summer’s World Cup.
