Tiago: I’m at my peak

Atletico Madrid midfielder Tiago Mendes believes he is playing the best football of his career at the tender age of 33.

The former Benfica, Chelsea and Lyon star's top-level career looked to have reached a premature end after a disappointing spell at Juventus, but he has since enjoyed a late resurgence with Los Colchoneros.

"I feel fine and at my peak," the veteran told reporters ahead of Portugal's Euro 2016 qualifier against Serbia on Sunday.

"I know it's strange to see a 33-year-old in the national team. The 'old' label can arise, but I've been working very well.

"I'm feeling great and experiencing one of the best years of my career.

"Serbia's players have great quality. They can all play for big teams in Europe, so we have to be alert for 90 minutes in order to have a great game."
