Real Betis have offered their Benito Villamarin stadium as a possible venue for the Copa del Rey final on May 30.
As the row rumbles on over where the game between Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao will be played, a Betis delegation, headed by President Juan Carlos Ollero, met officials from the Sevilla council on Tuesday in an attempt to push the Benito Villamarin to host the prestigious event.
The initiative, according to AS, has received the backing of the Andalusian Football Federation (RFAF) while the mayor of Sevilla, Juan Ignacio Zoido, issued a statement on the matter.
“The Sevilla council will support the proposal from the RFAF and Real Betis Balompie in offering their stadium as a potential venue for this year’s Copa del Rey final.
“It would be a privilege for the city of Sevilla to host the game between FC Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao,” it read.
However, both Barca and the Basques have written to the Spanish Football Federation asking for it to be played at the Santiago Bernabeu.
