Respected Spanish journalist Guillem Balague claims Diego Simeone rejected a huge offer from Manchester City and several other clubs.
The Atletico Madrid boss has been courted by a number of Europe’s top clubs following his success with Los Rojiblancos, but is expected to formally announce a contract extension at the Vicente Calderon on Tuesday.
However, Balague told Sky Sports’ Revista de La Liga programme that Simeone has recently turned down other lucrative offers.
“He had a huge offer from Manchester City, a huge offer from Paris Saint-Germain, and from two Italian teams, but he is close to signing a new deal with Atletico Madrid until 2020,” he revealed.
“Five more years, and that is not normal in Spanish football, but Atletico realise they need Simeone and Simeone realises he is happy with what he does at the club.”
