Moyes: Europe in La Real’s sights

David Moyes believes Real Sociedad can start realistically challenging for European qualification ahead of Sunday’s encounter with Cordoba in La Liga.

Having played down his side’s hopes of a top-half finish for much of the season, the Coach is aware that La Real are now just six points behind arch-rivals Athletic Bilbao, who occupy eight place and potentially a ticket into next season’s Europa League if Sevilla defend their title.

“We can start thinking about eighth place, [which may be enough for Europe next season],” the former Everton and Manchester United manager told reporters.

“[Carlos Vela] is in good condition, ready to play and is an important player, capable of winning games.

“[Let’s not forget that] we’ve done a great job [without Vela]. I hope we can improve on what we did without him [now that he’s back].

“[After this match], we have a demanding April coming up. Wins at home aren’t enough, we all want more. The main thing now is to get our third consecutive victory.

“[The win against Getafe on Monday] eased our anxiety and nerves. Cordoba have been very unlucky in many games, so we must focus on our own game and maintain our good home form.

“There aren’t any easy victories [in this League]. If we win in style then even better.

“[On Geronimo Rulli’s Argentine call-up], I’d like to have eight or nine internationals in my team.

“I was also surprised by the elimination of all the Premier League teams in the last 16 of the Champions League.”
