Chelsea pip Barca to Douglas Costa

Chelsea look to have beaten Barcelona in the race to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Douglas Costa, according to The Sun.

The Brazilian has reportedly agreed in principle to join the Premier League outfit, who are now set to start rebuilding for next season following the disappointment of their Champions League exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea are understood to be willing to pay around €20m for Costa, who has been consistently linked with Barcelona in recent weeks, and the player recently said it was his intention to move to the Premier League,

“I’d be really interested in moving to Chelsea because I think that I’d be able to achieve everything I want having someone like Jose Mourinho by my side,” he told the Daily Mail.

"Since I left Brazil, I have worked with a marvellous coach in Mircea Lucescu and got an idea of how much influence such a good professional can have on your football.

‘Now I think it’s time to try a new philosophy and I’m sure that Mourinho’s is the best around. He’s always fighting for trophies.”

It is believed the Londoners had a €20m bid for the 24-year-old turned down in January, having already tabled an earlier offer of €17m.
