Mourinho: ‘I hope City beat Barca’

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says he hopes Manchester City beat Barcelona when the sides meet in the Champions League next week.

The Portuguese saw his team eliminated from the competition by Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night and believes it would serve his team well in their quest for the Premier League title if City were to continue in the competition.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men, however, face a difficult task in the second leg at the Camp Nou, having lost the first leg 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium two weeks ago.

“I hope City knock Barca out because it is a question of honour for English football, which is where I work,” Mourinho is quoted as saying by Mundo Deportivo in comments attributed to the Daily Star.

“It will be very difficult but they can win. If City went out of the Champions League they would only have one competition to concentrate on.”
