Marcelino eyes CL spots

Villarreal boss Marcelino is looking forward to challenging for the Champions League places following the 4-1 win over Celta Vigo.

Goals from Giovani dos Santos, Mateo Musacchio, Luciano Vietto and Gerard Moreno eased the Yellow Submarine to a comfortable victory at El Madrigal, Augusto Fernandez with the visitors’ solitary reply, and they now lie just six points off the top four,

It was a display that Marcelino believes allows his players to aspire to even greater things in what remains of the season.

“This was a very important game and the three points means we are able to look upwards,” he told reporters.

“We must try and be ambitious and if we win our home games we can finish even higher in the table.

“Furthermore, after coming off a Copa del Rey defeat to Barcelona we now need to extend our lead over the teams that are chasing us.”

Marcelino was asked about the forthcoming Europa League clash with Sevilla.

“It is a different competition but we are playing well enough to face this tie,” he replied.
