Escriba ‘proud’ of Elche

Fran Escriba has spoken of his pride in the Elche team after they claimed victory over Almeria thanks to an early Victor Rodriguez goal.

Victor netted after only six minutes and Escriba’s side held on for a win that goes a long way towards easing their relegation concerns.

Escriba said after the match that the result is a sign of the progress made by his side, and suggested that rather than look over their shoulder at the bottom three, they’re thinking about going higher in the table.

“We haven’t done anything yet and if we go down in intensity in the coming games, we’ll have gone wrong,” he warned, Marca reports.

“I’m very proud of the commitment of this team and each time we’re also playing better. We can now catch teams like Eibar, which two months ago seemed unattainable.

“I said the second round [of fixtures] would be better than the first. We’re not a team that lives on talent but the collective and the tactical. And that takes time.”
