Madrid wanted me claims Nasri

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri claims he was the subject of interest from Real Madrid in his time with Marseille.

The 27-year-old began his professional career at his hometown club before moving to Arsenal in July 2008 for a reported €16m, although he told Le10Sport that he could easily have ended up signing for the Spanish giants.

“An interest from Real Madrid? There were some negotiations for me in the past,” insisted Nasri.

“Pape Diouf, who was Marseille President at the time, said that a player would be allowed to leave.

“In the end it was Franck Ribery, who signed for Bayern Munich, so I had to stay at Marseille another year and then I went to Arsenal.”

Nasri subsequently spent three seasons with the Gunners and joined City in 2011 for €27.5m.
