Garitano: ‘Eibar need a good result’

Eibar boss Gaizka Garitano admits his Eibar team need a good result quickly following a sixth straight defeat.

A strike from Carlos Gurpegi 10 minutes before the break proved enough for Athletic Bilbao to record a 1-0 victory at Ipurua, and Garitano conceded his team are showing a lack of confidence at the moment.

“Emotionally we are not at our best and we need a good result to break this losing streak,” he told reporters.

“This game was still alive right until the end and their goal hurt us, although in general Athletic did more than us and deserved to win.

“We have a problem in that we give the ball away too easily and if you do that then it’s very difficult to get it back. Defensively we are fine and have not conceded too many goals, but we must do more with the ball.

“Our key players are also lacking in confidence, although we can’t afford to lose heart as there is Friday’s game with Levante to come.

“I’m not worried but we need to improve. Worrying doesn’t get you anywhere. We need to encourage the players and remind them where we have come from.

“We are a lot better than what we’ve shown lately,” he added.
