Suarez: I didn’t bite Demichelis!

Luis Suarez has rejected allegations he bit Manchester City’s Martin Demichelis during Barcelona’s Champions League win over the Premier League side.

Images emerged that accusers claimed showed Suarez trying to bite the hand of the former Malaga defender during the 2-1 win, in which he scored both goals.

It was claimed that when Demichelis moved his hand to Suarez’s face and tried to brush him away, the Uruguayan, who has twice been banned for biting, attempted a third.

But Mundo Deportivo confirm the video footage shows that not to be the case, the forward rather trying to get out the way of Demichelis, and Suarez has hit out at the suggestions, arguing it is his reputation that has gone before him.

“He puts his hand to my throat. I don’t understand what they want me to do,” he protested in an interview with Sport890, a Uruguayan radio station.

“[The English Press] want to cause trouble. The slightest thing [I] do they want to make into a big deal and explode. They must be hurt by what I did at the World Cup [scoring twice against England].

“They forget the years I lived there, the respect I deserve as a professional. I’ll be grateful to the people of Liverpool all my life and the fans too, and they have nothing to do with the newspaper.”

Suarez also reflected on the punishment he received for biting Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup, a sentence which delayed his Barca debut.

“I was treated worse than a hooligan. I was expelled from the World Cup, not allowed to enter the stadium…” he recalled.

“It’s inexplicable and I’ll never understand. I was hurt by having to abandon my teammates.”
