Escriba: Elche have to play 90 minutes

Fran Escriba doesn’t want to see Elche play a good first half against Real Madrid and collapse after the break, calling for a full 90 minutes’ show.

Escriba told reporters at his pre-match Press conference that entering only 45 minutes’ worth of a performance, as against Barcelona, was ultimately worthless.

He also acknowledged that Elche are going into the game in better shape than they would have been had the match taken place earlier in the season.

“We arrive with good feelings and good results. It’s better to play this game now than a couple of months ago,” admitted Escriba, who has overseen two straight wins, AS reports.

“A first half is useless against a team like this. Against Barca we had a pretty good first 45 minutes but these games require 90-odd minutes of concentration. We have to play a full game with great intensity.

“We’d like to win but if we fail it’s because it’s harder against these teams. We were close to drawing with Madrid last year and we got a valuable point against Barca. The hope remains the same for every game.”
