‘Aguero? No one compares to Messi’

Javier Mascherano has rejected a comparison between Argentina teammates Sergio Aguero and Lionel Messi as ‘no one compares’ to the Barcelona forward.

Mascherano has been speaking ahead of the Champions League game between Barca and Manchester City and was asked about his compatriots at the Premier League club, Aguero and Pablo Zabaleta.

“They’re both very talented. Aguero is very difficult to mark but nobody compares with Messi because he is the best and no one reaches his level,” Mascherano said, according to AS.

“Zabaleta is a player with great commitment and always gives 100%.

“Manuel Pellegrini is a great Coach who has led big clubs in his career. He’s very quiet, simple and easy to understand.”

It’s the second straight year Barca and City have been drawn against each other in the Champions League and the former Liverpool player reflected on the differences from 2014.

“We have made more changes than they have and we have more different names,” considered Mascherano.

“They have the same Coach and will try the same things. We know how good they are. I think we’ll see a similar tie and hopefully the same result.

“City maybe aren’t in their best form and they’ll put a lot of focus on the Champions League because it’s a key competition for them and they try to improve in it every year.

“It will be very even and if we play like we have been we’ll have a lot of options to go through.”
