‘A privilege to play with Messi’

Pedro Rodriguez has lauded Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi after Messi plundered yet another hat-trick.

Messi scored three of Barca’s five goals against Levante, the other two coming from Neymar and Luis Suarez.

Pedro spoke to reporters after the match and while he hinted at his frustration at playing second fiddle to Luis Enrique’s preferred front three, he had no hesitation in waxing lyrical about La Pulga.

“What I will say is it’s a privilege to have him as a teammate and to share a dressing room with him,” AS reports the winger as saying.

“He’s a unique and different player. He always has the ambition to be the best.”

Pedro made what has become a rare start against Les Granotes and wasn’t used in his usual wide berth, with Messi staying on the right wing.

That meant Pedro played more centrally and it was a role he enjoyed, having on occasion played there before.

“It’s a different position for me but Leo is feeling comfortable on the right and I don’t mind the move to the middle,” he acknowledged.

“I found it comfortable even though it’s not my natural position. I’ve played there in some games with the national team.

“I’m more comfortable in the wider position but I can play in the centre.

“Perhaps we are changing the system to have the ball and counter-attack, but that will make us a better team.

“There are always things to improve but the team is moving forward and they are small details to improve. If we get lucky with injuries by the end of the season we can win trophies.”

Pedro concluded by looking forward to the next few weeks, which stand to include some of the most difficult games of the season, against Manchester City and Real Madrid.

“We know these are important games and we’ll try to maintain our level,” he said.
