‘Correa is Argentina’s future’

Former Valencia Coach Juan Antonio Pizzi believes Atletico Madrid have a future star in Angel Correa.

Pizzi was the Coach who gave Correa his chance at San Lorenzo, fielding the forward as an 18-year-old and has told AS about the player he knew.

“I was impressed with his personality. He took responsibility,” Pizzi, now at Leon in Mexico, said.

“He debuted at only 18 in a first-class team and the pressure didn’t affect him.”

Correa then moved to Atletico but his time in Spain was delayed upon the discovery of a heart problem, which has since been corrected.

Pizzi pointed to Correa’s recovery as evidence of his character but rejected comparisons with one of Atletico’s former Argentine forwards.

“The heart problem didn’t stop him playing at the highest level in San Lorenzo,” Pizzi noted.

“But now he has shown in his recovery how strong he is mentally.

“He’s the player with the greatest potential [in Argentina]. He’s the future of Argentina with his personality and quality.

“Playing for Atleti it’s inevitable to compare him with Sergio Aguero. He’s different from Kun. Correa will give more imagination to the attack. Aguero took advantage of his power.

“It’s wise that he’ll just train with Atletico for the rest of the season. Training with players of that level, he’ll adapt to the way they work and playing is great.”

AS confirm that Correa will spend the duration of the campaign under the orders of Diego Simeone but as Atletico already have three non-EU players- Joao Miranda, Jose Gimenez and Raul Jimenez – Correa can’t be registered in the squad.
