‘Braida a good addition to Barca’

Carles Rexach believes Ariedo Braida will prove to be a ‘good addition’ to Barcelona following his appointment as the club’s new international sports advisor.

The Italian, best known for his 27-year association with Milan, has yet to be officially unveiled by La Blaugrana but watched on from the stands at Camp Nou as his new employers defeated Villarreal 3-1 in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday.

“He arrived yesterday, getting used to his new home and had dinner. Today we ate again and had a catch-up,” the former Barca winger, now an advisor to the board and part of Braida’s technical committee, told reporters before the match.

“He’s a man who knows a lot about international football, from Argentina to Brazil, and has never been disconnected. He’s always in touch with everyone and very much [still] relevant.

“He’s a good addition. It’s not true that we can’t sign players, but we can’t stand still for a year.

“We must evaluate who’s coming in, who’s leaving and the grassroots … Like all great clubs, we’re limited to a small number of players in the [transfer] market, but there’s always a possibility.”
