English clubs on Guardiola alert

Several Premier League clubs have been put on alert following reports Pep Guardiola will not extend his current deal with Bayern Munich.

The former Barcelona boss has a contract with the Bavarians until June 2016 and there is speculation in Germany that he has told the club he has no wish to remain at the Allianz Arena beyond then.

A report in Metro suggests Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea in particular are all possible destinations for the 44-year-old, although it is unlikely he will end up at Stamford Bridge given Jose Mourinho’s return to English football from Real Madrid.

However, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is now aged 65 and could be persuaded to move upstairs into a director of football role, while Manuel Pellegrini’s agreement with City is due to expire at the same time as Guardiola’s.
