Xavi: Spats have zero importance

Xavi Hernandez has distanced Barcelona from the spat between Lionel Messi and Luis Enrique, which threatened to derail the club’s season.

The Blaugrana pair were involved in a training-ground incident shortly after the Christmas break, but the veteran midfielder insists the case is closed and that his side are only focused on maintaining their recent run of victories.

“They are situations which happen throughout the season and when there are human collectives,” he said at a Press conference.

“They are tense situations in which you want to win, but it has zero importance. This topic is closed.

“We’re all for one and motivated. We’re very close, there’s a fantastic atmosphere at the club and we’re all going forward. [Jeremy] Mathieu's words don’t change anything.

“It will happen again with colleagues and other technical staff, but [Messi-Enrique] has been given zero importance.

“We all want to win. There are moments of tension and intensity. It’s not the first time it happened.

“It’s happened 200 times and at all clubs. It’s good when it happens because it shows everyone wants to win. [Players] want to feel important and plugged in.”
