Sacchi: ‘Barca right to pick Braida’

Arrigo Sacchi believes Barcelona were right to choose Ariedo Braida as their new international sporting director.

Braida, 68, was Milan’s general manager between 1986 and 2002 and is widely acknowledged as the man who built the legendary team that ruled Europe in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

He subsequently held the position of sporting director until December 2013, when he severed all ties with the Serie A giants, and will now form a four-man panel at the Camp Nou alongside Carles Rexach, director Javier Bordas and Vice-President Jordi Mestre.

The respected Sacchi, himself a former boss of Milan, is in no doubt the Catalans have pulled off a major coup and highlighted Braida’s great experience and honesty.

“I’m happy for him. He deserves it because he was one of the Milan greats who worked successfully, with ability and honesty. He is a very competent and experienced man,” Sacchi told Esports Cope.

“Braida can bring all these attributes to Barcelona. He is one of the greats of world football and is fully up-to-date on the market. I think Barca were right to bring him in. Milan did not only play in Italy and he knows the international market.

“Luis Enrique’s side is improving and I think it will continue to evolve. They are on the right road to have a season at the optimum level,” he concluded.
