Cani: ‘Neymar will have problems’

Atletico Madrid midfielder Cani believes Barcelona striker Neymar will invite trouble his entire career with the way he behaves on the pitch.

The Brazilian appeared to have a running battle with some Atleti players in Barca’s 3-2 Copa del Rey quarter-final second leg victory at the Vicente Calderon , before being substituted late on, and Cani feels he contributes to his own problems.

“His whole career he’s going to have problems,” Gabi told reporters in the mixed zone after his side went out of the competition 4-2 on aggregate to the Catalans.

“Neymar has a style of play, doing ‘nutmegs’, talking…it’s the way he plays the game. Someday he will have a problem like he had today, but if that’s what he likes to do…”

Cani, who made his Atleti debut in an official game following his loan move from Villarreal, insisted he did not see what happened at the end of the first half, when captain Gabi was dismissed for something he said to the referee as the teams left the pitch.

“I was warming up with the substitutes but Gabi said he only told him we should have had a penalty and it was a red card. He said he didn’t say anything more and he was sent off.

“I’d obviously like to have won the game and got through [to the semi-finals], although that’s something you can’t choose, but I tried to do my best,” he maintained.
