Simeone sings Arda praises

Diego Simeone sang the praises of Arda Turan after Atletico Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Granada on Sunday.

The winger assisted Raul Garcia for Los Colchoneros’ second goal against the basement boys in La Liga, and the Coach felt the Turkey international posed a timely reminder about his ability at the Vicente Calderon.

“You’re seeing a very tight championship unfold. Sevilla, Valencia and Villarreal are also fighting for third place,” he said after the game.

“We expected to do a lot of digging, and we must continue with the same enthusiasm and intensity.

“The second half of the season is always more difficult because everything’s at stake and teams play differently.

“Our opponents were organised defensively, but we improved after we scored in the 25th minute.

“[Mario] Mandzukic and [Fernando] Torres are players of different characteristics, and I’m happy with their performances.

“It’s times like these when you realise what a key player he is and how much the team need him. His talent is innate.

“For the fans, it’s always better to win than lose. As a child I was taught that it’s better to go through than be eliminated.”

El Cholo then denied reports suggesting Cristian Rodriguez's proposed loan to Parma was complete.

“I’m open to any situation which may occur in the market, but I can’t say anything about Cristian [Rodriguez] because nothing’s been said officially,” he added.

“He’s a player we’d like to keep and who’s always behaved properly. He’s a great professional.”
