‘Valencia fans have right to boo’

Nuno Santo admits Valencia fans have the right to express their disappointment with the team’s performances after Tuesday’s elimination from the Copa del Rey.

Despite taking a 2-1 lead into the second leg of their last-16 tie with Espanyol midweek, Los Che crashed out of the competition following a 2-0 defeat in Catalonia, leaving the Coach desperate to see a response from his troops against Almeria later today.

“We can’t pretend that our fans aren’t sad or disappointed like ourselves about being eliminated [from the Copa del Rey],” he said at a Press conference.

“We understand our fans have the right to boo, but more importantly we must win back the admiration and support of our fans by playing with intensity.

“Almeria are a team who have changed their dynamics. They have players at the Africa Cup of Nations, but their results have improved. They’re a compact team.

“My problem isn’t managing our frustration or euphoria but the best for the team. Now we must focus on our only objective, which is the Champions League, and we’ll give it our all.

“The situation and our approach has changed [in the market, referring to Peter Lim’s takeover]. We’ve spoken about finding the best solution.

“It must be noted that we have two wingers out through injury and the AFCON, so we’ll look at the balance of our squad. We also have youngsters in training, who are available for matches.”
