Official: Granada sack Caparros

Granada have sacked Coach Joaquin Caparros and are working on a deal to bring in Abel Resino as his successor.

The 59-year-old's job was reported to be at risk earlier in the day, but the Andalucians have now confirmed his dismissal on their official website.

Joseba Aguado, the club's B trainer, has taken charge of training in Caparros' absence and will lead the team out against Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

Abel, meanwhile, is closing in on a return to Granada, having guided the club to safety in their first season back in La Liga three years ago.

His other notable successes include qualifying Atletico Madrid for the Champions League in 2009 and ensuring Celta Vigo avoided the drop prior to Luis Enrique taking over.

El Grana are on a horrendous run of results, with their last League win coming 14 matchdays ago at Athletic Bilbao on September 20.
