Marcelino “proud” of Villarreal

Villarreal boss Marcelino declared himself “proud” of his players after seeing them progress to the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey.

The Yellow Submarine drew 2-2 in the second leg of their Last 16 tie with Real Sociedad at Anoeta to go through 3-2 on aggregate and set up a clash with Getafe.

Carlos Vela put the hosts in front only for Gerard Moreno and Giovani Dos Santos to reply for Villarreal before Esteban Granero pulled one back 15 minutes from time, although it was too little too late for David Moyes’ side.

However, opposition Coach Marcelino was more than happy as his team extended their unbeaten run to 14 games in all competitions.

“I’m very happy with the performance of my players because we made a lot of changes yet still managed to maintain the same dynamics we have had in the League,” he told a Press conference.

“I’m proud of them. I’m looking forward to the games with Getafe and hope we can continue this competitive level.

“We are not thinking about our unbeaten run, only the next game against Athletic Bilbao, and we will move further away from in the table if we beat them.”
