Bartomeu: ‘FIFA are getting nervous’

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu believes FIFA are getting nervous regarding the Catalans’ transfer ban.

Barca have been prohibited from signing players in the next two transfer windows after breaching rules surrounding the incorporation of young players from outside Spain, but Bartomeu feels FIFA may now be about to backtrack on their decision.

“FIFA are getting nervous about the intervention of the Spanish League,” he told Catalunya Radio’s ‘El Club de la Mitjanit’ programme.

“[FIFA President Sepp] Blatter wants to meet us. They want to find solutions for problems they have created themselves.

“[Lionel] Messi is a son of the Masia project and under the current rules, which they have invented, he would not be who he is – the best player in the world.”
