Clement prefers Madrid to Newcastle

Real Madrid assistant Coach Paul Clement has ruled himself out of the running to take over at Newcastle United.

The 43-year-old Englishman, who has been Carlo Ancelotti’s right-hand man at the Santiago Bernabeu since summer 2013, was understood to be on United’s short-list to replace Alan Pardew, who left the club for Crystal Palace almost two weeks ago.

However, Clement told Talksport he has no plans to return to England just yet and wants to stay with the European champions – at least for the time being.

“Newcastle is a fantastic football club and I’m very flattered to have been linked with them, as well as some other great clubs in England.

“But I’m enjoying working in Madrid and I think it is best I remain here in the near future to gain more experience of working with such great players at this great club.

“However, I’d like to come home at some point to try and cut my cloth as a manager,” he admitted.
