Ballon d’Or 2014: Who voted for who?

Lionel Messi left Cristiano Ronaldo out of his top three for the 2014 Ballon d’Or while the Real Madrid man didn’t include his Barcelona counterpart either.

Messi voted as captain of Argentina and plumped for ex-Madrid midfielder Angel Di Maria in first place and Barca teammates Andres Iniesta and Javier Mascherano in second and third respectively.

Portugal captain Ronaldo picked three Madrid colleagues – Sergio Ramos, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.

Ronaldo was crowned the World Player of the Year for the second time in succession and third time overall, doubling the votes of both Messi, who was second, and third-place Manuel Neuer.

Argentina Coach Gerardo Martino, formerly of Barca, voted for Messi, with Di Maria second and Mascherano third.

Spain captain Iker Casillas voted for Ronaldo, Ramos and Germany international Thomas Muller.
