Cesc: I’m no Messi mediator!

Former Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has rubbished suggestions that he will act as a mediator in Chelsea’s reported pursuit of Lionel Messi.

Reports last week claimed that the 25-year-old was ready to lure the Argentine forward, whom he played alongside between 2011 and 2013, to Stamford Bridge, but the Spain international insists he has no authority in assuming such a role.

“The situation’s been blown out of proportion. Messi’s happy at the club, and he’s happy with them,” he told Onda Cero.

“I feel bad when I hear people say that I’d act as a mediator in taking Messi to Chelsea. What makes people think I can discuss contracts? I’m just a football player.

“He will do what makes him happiest. As a friend, former colleague and player, if I get the chance to play with him then so be it.

“I don’t know Luis Enrique that well, but I know Leo and I doubt [his bust-up with Enrique] happened because he’s a very quiet boy and I've never seen anything like that in the three years we spent together.

“The best player in the world and the most talented is Messi. Tactically and as a footballer, he’s better [than Ronaldo].

“I see Cristiano more as a striker and not so much involved as was at United and in his early days at Madrid, even if he’s a monster.

“Messi is more involved, and I always prefer to have Leo in my team.”
