Moyes thankful for 1-0 La Real defeat

Real Sociedad boss David Moyes said the 1-0 Copa del Rey defeat at Villarreal was not a fair scoreline – the opposition should have scored more!

The Scot saw his side go down to a second-half goal from Denis Cheryshev just 10 minutes after he came on as a substitute at El Madrigal, but was thankful Marcelino’s men did not take advantage of the numerous chances they created.

“It wasn’t a fair result. The truth is that Villarreal deserved to win by more goals and we are happy with the 1-0 because we could have lost by more,” Moyes told reporters post-match.

“We’ve come back here to face a very strong team that plays great football. The approach we took was similar to that in the [recent] League game, when we lost 4-0, but I think we played a little better this time.

“We need to improve a lot if we want to turn this tie around. We’ll have to defend better and be more decisive with the ball at our feet.

“If we want to make a comeback we have to be more clinical in the opposition penalty area,” he declared.
