Malaga tie up Belarus defender

Malaga have announced the signing of defender Egor Filipenko from BATE Borisov for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old central defender [pictured, left] becomes the club’s first signing of the January transfer window and has joined Los Boquerones for an undisclosed fee, putting pen to paper on a contract until June 2017.

The experienced Belarus international has spent the last two years at BATE, joining the club after a successful loan spell from Spartak Moscow, and says he is delighted to be moving to La Liga.

“I always dreamed of playing in Spain and my objective now is to get in good physical shape and help the team gain more points,” he told the club’s official website.

“When I received the proposal from Malaga I was pleased and told my agent I’d only be talking to this team.

“With regard to any other offers, I’m here now and that’s all that matters. The conditions are perfect and everything is set up to enjoy sport and training sessions.

“I’ll certainly be learning Spanish in order to better communicate with the team,” he declared.
