Krul to replace Madrid-bound De Gea?

Manchester United are lining up a shock raid on Newcastle United for goalkeeper Tim Krul if David de Gea decides to quit Old Trafford.

The Reds are set to announce the signing of former Barcelona stopper Victor Valdes on an 18-month contract this week, sparking fresh speculation that Spain international De Gea could be on his way back to Spain with Real Madrid.

According to the Daily Mail, United could cash in on De Gea at the end of this season if he refuses to commit himself to a new contract, rather than lose him for free in June 2016, and Madrid are being linked with a bid of around €35m for the 24-year-old.

As a result, boss Louis van Gaal is weighing up a move for Krul, whom he knows from his time in charge of the Dutch national team.

During last summer’s World Cup in Brazil, Van Gaal brought him off the bench for the penalty shoot-out that saw Holland get past Costa Rica in the quarter-finals of the competition.
