Perez ‘seduced’ by Valencia challenge

Enzo Perez has admitted that he was ‘seduced’ into joining Valencia after completing his €25m transfer from Benfica.

The Argentina midfielder – who is in line to debut against Real Madrid on Sunday – was presented to an 8,000-strong crowd at Mestalla on Friday, and he revealed the prospect of helping Los Che to relive past glories was too good to resist.

“If I debut against Real Madrid then that’d be welcome, but it’s a technical decision,” he said.

“For me it's all new. It’s the first time I'm in this League, so it’ll be all new and strange on the pitch. If we have to give Real Madrid a guard of honour, no problem. On the pitch, it’ll be different.

“A player has to be versatile. Then, it’s the Coach who chooses where to get the best out of them. I’ve played in almost every position, but midfield for the past two seasons.

“In the summer, [the move] was already clear. When there was interest [from Valencia], it seduced me, I liked it, I like these new projects. If I’m here today, it means something.

“It would be something nice to score [against Madrid]. I'm ready to play, and scoring goals would make it much better, but what matters is not who scores but that the team wins.

“First, I will try to adapt to the ideas of the Coach quickly. Then I want to help Valencia return to the Champions League. Why can’t we fight for the League?

“Yes I was in communication [with Rodrigo Moreno], asking him things about the team and the city. All this convinced me to come here, so I chose Valencia and not another club. I like this challenge’s objectives.

“I’ve known [about Valencia’s interest] since June. Since then, I've watched Valencia’s matches in a different light. I wanted to see my future colleagues in action, and now I'm here.”
