Milan midfielder Nigel De Jong has backed Fernando Torres to revive his flagging career after returning to boyhood club Atletico Madrid.
The former Liverpool, Chelsea and Milan striker has reached a loan agreement with Los Colchoneros until the end of the 2015-16 season, a move De Jong believes will see him back to his best.
“I’m not entirely surprised that Fernando is gone. He hasn’t played in recent games but is a great player who can give a lot to a team,” the Dutchman told Dubai Eye 103.8 News.
“Obviously at the moment Milan is not a club where he can express himself, so I hope he can do well at Atletico.
“He grew up there and I hope he can find his form and start to score again. I trained with him and he’s a player who always trains hard.
“It’s up to him to prove he is still world class and maybe we’ll see that at Atletico.”
