Diego Simeone is set to rebuff overtures from Manchester City and Liverpool by committing his future to Atletico Madrid
The Argentine boss has been the subject of rumours he could take over at the Etihad Stadium or Anfield if either club has a disappointing season.
However, the Daily Star reports that Simeone, who is understood to have been taking English lessons, has had a change of heart and will remain at the Vicente Calderon after being convinced the club’s ambition matches his own.
It is believed Simeone’s decision is partly due to the imminent signing of Fernando Torres, who will arrive on loan this week, and that transfer has helped convince him the Atleti hierarchy are serious about the future.
He has also been promised funds for further signings as Los Rojiblancos seek to emulate last season’s success, when they achieved an unlikely title win and reached the Champions League final.
