Man City weigh up Atleti hitman

Manchester City are contemplating a move for Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic in the January transfer window.

Blues’ boss Manuel Pellegrini needs attacking reinforcements with recent injuries to Sergio Aguero, Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko having left him woefully short of options up front.

A report in the Daily Star claims the Chilean has made the former Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich player his top target after being forced to play midfielder James Milner as an emergency forward in last weekend’s win over Crystal Palace.

Croatian international Mandzukic, 28, is understood to have told friends he would be interested in a move to the Premier League, despite having allegedly turned down a switch to England before the start of this season.

Atleti may find a considerable offer from City hard to dismiss as they battle mounting debut and may be obliged to cash in on Mandzukic, who only joined Los Rojiblancos in July this year for a reported €22m.
