Marcelino felt Villarreal's 3-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday was fully deserved. "The scoreline reflected the difference on the pitch."
The Yellow Submarine made it seven wins and five clean sheets on the bounce thanks to their convincing triumph against the Galicians, and the Coach was delighted to see his side end the year on a positive note.
"The scoreline reflected the difference on the pitch. It was a fair and deserved victory," he said after the match.
"Before we went 2-0 up, Deportivo posed us only one moment of danger, while we had plenty of chances to score the second goal.
"No one can take our points away from us. I'm very pleased and proud of the squad I have. Last season we had 28 points before the winter break, now have 30 with a game less.
"We lacked a clinical edge and some continuity, but not in the speed of our play. Giovani [Dos Santos] was very well positioned between the lines and participated in many chances.
"With young players, you must be cautious because they still have much to do in order to grow.
"Despite the very positive streak, the team needs this break. In terms of effort and concentration, we've invested everything into training and matches for the past four months.
"These eight days come at a very good time for us."
