Ramos: I’m staying at Madrid

Sergio Ramos says he is confident of signing a new contract with Real Madrid and that he does not foresee any problems.

Ramos still has two years left on his current agreement left but has had to contend with recent reports linking him with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, speaking after Madrid’s 4-0 Club World Cup semi-final victory over Cruz Azul, the Spain international was confident of agreeing an extension with club President Florentino Perez.

In addition, he also reiterated his motivation was not money, despite recent comments from former Los Blancos sporting director Arrigo Sacchi.

“Honestly, this is the least of my worries. That is something for my agent, to communicate with the club,” he told El Larguero.

“My contract expires in 2017 and my intention is to stay with the team that has given me almost everything.

“I’ve got a lot of affection and respect for Sacchi because he was important for me when I first signed for Real Madrid.

“I was with him a long time but, as I explained on Twitter, I don’t do things for money and I never have.

“In this instance it depends on my happiness and that of the President and I don’t think there will be any kind of problem in reaching agreement.”

The 28-year-old notched the opener against Cruz Azul but had to be substituted in the second half after picking up a thigh strain.

Nonetheless, he still expects to be in contention for Saturday’s final against the winners of San Lorenzo and Auckland City.

“I’m not in too much discomfort and hopefully it’s nothing serious. They’ll have look at it tomorrow and I’ll see how I am then, but I hope to play in the final.

“This the only competition I have yet to win. I hope to do that and we’ll start again,” he added.
