‘Montoya and Douglas not lost causes’

Luis Enrique has insisted that Martin Montoya and Douglas Pereira are both still firmly part of his plans at Barcelona.

The pair of right-backs have found themselves out of favour at Camp Nou in recent weeks, with the Spaniard's agent announcing last week that his client would be leaving the club '100 percent'  in January.

However, the Coach maintained that either player would be given opportunities to prove themselves under his tutelage, providing that they continue to work hard and show enough quality in training.

"The players have contracts in force. We won't talk about the conversations behind closed doors," he told reporters at a Press conference.

"I understand his situation and I encourage him to continue working hard.

"I'm only really interested in what happens on the pitch, and I appreciate his work. It's not too late for him.

"Sometimes we play with a back four, sometimes a back three. At Barca B that was also the case.

"We always try to pose danger to our rivals. The match against PSG was different, but we played well.

"Douglas comes from another continent. He's an interesting player and needs to do the same things he did at Sao Paulo.

"However, we know he has what it takes to do just that. We only place importance in beating our next opponents, nothing more."
