San Jose “happy” with Bilbao winner

Athletic Bilbao defender Mikel San Jose declared himself happy with his 68th minute goal that proved enough to beat Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 in Lviv.

The Basques have to avoid defeat against BATE Borisov at home in their final Group H Champions League game to qualify for a Europa League place, something San Jose claims they will be going all out to do.

“I’m really happy about my winning goal and the three points for the team,” the 25-year-old told reporters post-match.

“We knew it would be very difficult and it was a bit cold, although it’s not the first time we’ve played in such temperatures.

“Our next match with BATE is decisive and we’ll give everything. We’ve got to try and win and get a Europa League spot.

“We are now closer to our objective and don’t want to miss this chance, so we’ve got to win the last match,” he added.
