Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has rubbished rumours linking the club with a move for Lionel Messi.
Despite the Barcelona star bagging a hat-trick in the 5-1 win over Sevilla at the weekend, when he broke Telmo Zarra’s 60-year-old La Liga goalscoring record, his recent comments that his future may one day lie away from the Camp Nou has sparked reported interest from Europe’s richest clubs.
However, speaking to assembled media before his team’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich on Tuesday, the City boss dismissed the stories whilst also praising the Argentine on his amazing feat.
“The rumours are only rumours. What he has done is exceptional and there are few players who can reach his level.
“The record he has achieved shows how important he is for Barcelona,” insisted the Chilean.
