Olympiacos Coach Michel has spoken of his friendship with Atletico Madrid counterpart Diego Simeone and described Cholo as ‘extraordinary.’
The two will be in opposition this week as Atletico host the Greeks in the Champions League and Michel has paid tribute to Simeone and recalled past battles with the Argentine.
“In modern football there are no secrets and we know each other very well,” he said, AS reports.
“I know Simeone’s mentality perfectly well and he seems an extraordinary man.
“I want to keep things favourable to my team but it’s true that Simeone has a very strong team and they are slightly the favourites.
“It was the same for me when I played for Real Madrid and he was with Atletico. We had a good run and wins were easier to come by.
“I remember a match, Madrid 5-0 Sevilla, because I scored a good goal. [Diego] Maradona was playing for Sevilla [with Simeone].
“Simeone had the same intense style then that he’s had throughout his career. We won 5-0 and had a very good game.”
