Bartomeu: Faith in Enrique & Zubi

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has said there is no doubt over Luis Enrique as Coach or Andoni Zubizarreta as sporting director.

Bartomeu has spoken to 8TV on a number of subjects, including the future of Lionel Messi, with the Coach and the sporting director also a topic of discussion.

“I’m not unhappy [with Enrique]. We knew Enrique was starting a new project with many changes,” Bartomeu said, AS reports.

“He’s a Coach who has in the past demonstrated his capacity. Things aren’t so bad. The members are calm and we have confidence in Enrique.

“We’ve incorporated Luis Suarez, who is a dream for us. The project is being built. Obviously there are things to improve but I would say to everyone to be calm.”

On Zubizarreta, Bartomeu acknowledged that not every signing made by the former goalkeeper’s department has worked out, but stressed that is par for the course.

“Zubi has been questioned but he has a very difficult job. I’m happy with the changes we have made and we have yet to see Thomas Vermaelen and Douglas,” Bartomeu noted.

“I think the work he is doing is very good. Everyone in the world makes mistakes but we have total confidence in him. Let him work.

“When we choose a player it’s not only one person that decides. This summer there were more moves possible than in the last 30 years. We must take stock at the end of the season.

“The important thing is the Coach has a squad that is deep and balanced. As we’ve seen, the Coach constantly changes the starting team.”
