FIFA to pay Madrid €1.8m for Modric

Real Madrid will receive €1.8m in compensation for the injury Luka Modric suffered in the Euro 2016 qualifier against Italy on Sunday.

According to a report in AS, Madrid will be covered financially in conjunction with the Croatian’s salary and the time he will now spend away from playing football for his team, estimated to be a period of between three and four months.

The FIFA Club Protection Programme specifies a player must be sidelined for a minimum of 28 days to be eligible for compensation, while Madrid recently received around €2m following an injury Sami Khedira sustained playing for Germany against Italy last November, which kept him out for five months.
